This Mercer Island couple wanted a low-maintenance garden for this particular site.  The hot rock wall combined with afternoon sun meant that we needed to use draught resistant, heat tolerant plants.  The client liked the idea of using rocks  in place of bark for a ground cover, similar to their landscaping in Phoenix which uses a lot of rock as a weed barrier. This provided a cleaner look with lower maintenance than bark.
